Alpiq off to a good start
The results for the first financial year 2009 are solid and give cause for satisfaction. Alpiq has strengthened its position as a leading energy services provider in Switzerland.
Alpiq posts solid results
The Alpiq Group posted solid results for the 2009 financial year, despite an extremely difficult environment in Europe. Consolidated revenue fell by 7.4% to CHF 14.82 billion, while EBITDA amounted to CHF 1.54 billion (5.0% down year on year), with EBIT coming in at CHF 1.06 billion (-7.2%) and Group profit at CHF 676 million (-7.7%). These results have strengthened Alpiq's position as a leading provider of energy services in Switzerland.
Chairman Hans E. Schweickardt and CEO Giovanni Leonardi look back on an eventful year: 2009 was dominated by the merger of Atel and EOS to create Alpiq. Working closely with the management team, Alpiq employees mastered this challenge with aplomb.
Considering the challenging economic and regulatory environment in 2009, the solid results for the year give cause for satisfaction despite falling short of the record figures posted in 2008. CFO Kurt Baumgartner comments on the operating results.
