Highlights 2020
New concession
On 23 September 2020, the two Swiss cantons of Solothurn and Aargau granted the Gösgen hydropower plant a new concession for 70 years.
Increased presence in the North
A significantly enlarged team has been offering origination services in Helsinki and Oslo since 27 April 2020.
Hydrogen production
Milestone on the journey to emission-free mobility. On 2 June 2020, the first container was filled with hydrogen from the Gösgen hydropower plant.
New CEO
Antje Kanngiesser appointed as new CEO of the Alpiq Group. Thanks to her deep understanding of the energy industry, she will lead Alpiq into the next phase of its corporate history.
First grid synchronisation
The Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant is on the home straight. On 5 August 2020, one of the six pump turbines was synchronised with the grid for the first time on a trial basis.
Prequalified battery
Battery storage units stabilise the electricity grid. A 20 MW battery managed by Alpiq prequalified for secondary control power on 24 September 2020.
PPA for photovoltaic plants
On 24 September 2020, Alpiq signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) in a consortium with Himin and Solaer for the 50 MW Alizarsun solar project in Spain.
